The purpose of the Furniture Makers Show is to focus on and improve the art and craft of furniture making in Texas. In keeping with this theme, Michael Fortune conducted a three hour seminar entitled “Developing an Idea from Concept to Completion” which was attended by 50 furniture makers. The final and perhaps most meaningful educational experience of the weekend occurred during the walk around critique with the judges on Sunday November 4th. The judges explained exactly why they had selected each award winning piece. Then, furniture makers who wished to have their pieces evaluated, received constructive criticism on their work, good points and what could have been improved were discussed. The majority of the furniture makers participated in this unique learning opportunity.
The show is sponsored by the Woodcraft stores in San Antonio, Dallas, Houston, Ft. Worth and Austin; Otto Dukes Machinery Company, Allen & Allen Co., and Alamo Hardwoods of San Antonio; Fine Lumber & Plywood, Inc of Austin; JDS Multi-router of Columbia SC; Fine Woodworking Magazine, Newton CT; SawStop, Tualatin, OR; Festool USA, Lebanon, IN; Steel City Toolworks USA, Murfreesboro TN, Guadalupe National Bank, Hill Country Turners, the Best Western - Sunday House Inn and the Kerrville Convention & Visitors’ Bureau of Kerrville.
