Art101

If you have always wanted to create works of art, and weren’t sure where to begin, this series of workshops is for you. This is a chance to explore five different mediums in short “hands on” sessions with experienced instructors, who are willing to share their knowledge and experience with participants.

This introduction to the arts through five mediums will take place on successive Thursday evenings from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. All supplies for each class will be provided. Tuition: $40/session, $160/five sessions

Mediums and instructors are as follows:

March 3 – Colored Pencil with Phyllis Garey
Colored pencil, both as a single medium and mixed with pencil and/or pen is both creative and meditative. In this class you will experience fun techniques for both realistic and abstract art, as well as begin to develop your own style

March 10 – Drawing with Ginger Cullins
In this class the student will learn how to draw the basic geometric shapes along with techniques to measure for drawing proportionally. Also being taught will be shading to show form using graphite pencils and a value scale. The student will be able to complete a drawing using all of these techniques.

March 17 – Mixed Media with Al Zirkel
This mixed media module will use pre-painted canvas boards as a base. Students will then cut out and attach images on their boards creating an interplay between the background and foreground collaged images. All supplies will be provided, however individuals are encouraged to bring items they would like to include in their collage compositions.

March 24 – Acrylic Painting with Deanna Eixman
This is a great class for someone new to painting or for the artist wanting to explore the basics of acrylic painting. We will touch on the different types of acrylic paints and uses as well as what you need to get started. Be prepared to paint along with me as we work on your own painting to take home.

March 31 – Pastel with Doug Garey
This class will be a brief introduction to the materials and methods used in pastel painting. A brief demonstration will be followed by participant opportunity to get acquainted with the medium. It’s fun!

Each session will cover one medium and focus on small works that can be completed during that session. For further information call (830)895–2911, or [email protected]
